Used Kayaks For Sale
It can be a good idea to look for a used kayak instead
of a new one when you're in the market for one. It will be a lot cheaper than buying a new one and can serve
your recreational purposes.
Look around online. Sometimes one is gently used and
it's all you'll need for your excursions. However, you'll still need to do your homework and know what kinds
of kayaks are out there and what features you'll be wanting.
It's just about the same knowledge that you'd need if
you were going to go with a brand new one. Here are some things you'll need to know. And some of it depends
on whether you're a novice or a pro.
For instance, beginners often do well with the kind of
kayaks where the paddler sits on top. That way they're not feeling closed in or like they'll be upside down
if the boat should turn over.
Inflatable kayaks are also good for beginners so check
into them. They're not big toys, they're real boats for real boaters. Some kayaks are made for experts
because you have to be able to paddle well in order to handle them.
Slalom kayaks are in this category. They're shorter
and turn well but you have to know how to paddle them because they can become unstable and roll too much for
a beginner. So it's important to know where you fit in the scheme of boating expertise.
There are recreational white-water kayaks that are
meant to go in rough waters. If that's where you're aiming, you'll want to look at some of
these.
They're heavier duty than some of the others and are
meant to be maneuvered in tight spots. They are usually made of very hardy material so they can take a
beating. But when you're buying used, be vigilant and look very carefully.
These have likely seen some rough use and may have
nicks and gouges that you won't see at first. However, they could affect the usage that you want to give the
kayak.
It may have been used by somebody else, but it's new
to you and you want it to be able to perform. A little nick might be fine, but more than that is
suspect.
One kayak is not the same as another. There are some
that are built for the open water. These are ocean kayaks, and they're designed to move mostly in a straight
line. They have more storage space, too, for longer excursions.
When you're thinking of buying a used ocean kayak,
check for damage around the cockpit, spray deck, and fittings, and make sure of the hull integrity. Armed
with this informtion, you should be able to go comparison shopping for a used kayak with a sense of expertise
that will let you make an intelligent choice for a good price.
